The non-partisan Greater Ohio Policy Center (GOPC) released its “Questions for Candidates in the 2018 Election.” This document challenges the next governor, other statewide office-seekers, and legislative candidates to articulate their policy positions on a range of quality-of-life and redevelopment issues, such as:
- brownfield remediation to unlock prime real estate
- public transportation’s part in connecting employees to workplaces
- the role of JobsOhio in revitalizing Ohio’s legacy communities
- balancing proposed new infrastructure projects with the urgent repairs needed on existing roads and bridges
GOPC’s 10 questions follow on the organization’s “2018 Policy Platform,” which recommends 6 essential policy reforms necessary for building vibrant cities and towns across the state.
“Ohio’s communities, large and small, are setting clear visions for themselves that build on their economic history, beautiful architecture, unique character and affordable amenities. State policy must support local efforts to reinvent and revitalize,” said Alison Goebel, GOPC Executive Director. “By releasing these questions, GOPC is ensuring that Ohio’s strongest assets—its places and people—remain at the forefront of the election and the next Administration’s agenda.”
To ensure Ohio’s cities and towns continue to stabilize distressed neighborhoods, give all Ohioans access to opportunities, and offer the features and services new and existing employers desire, Ohio’s next Governor, Legislature, and statewide Officers must create a policy environment that helps communities achieves these goals.
