The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond has recently launched the Center for Rural Economies, which works to strengthen small town and rural economies by generating research, sharing knowledge and resources, and building partnerships that help these communities thrive. The entire Federal Reserve Bank system will be collaborating to potentially expand the reach of data and research regarding rural communities in other geographies.

Dive into detailed data on project locations, compare metro and rural areas, and examine trends in low-and moderate-income neighborhoods
Survey of Household Economics and Decision Making
Explore the Survey of Household Economics and Decision Making data visualization tool, offered by the Federal Reserve System Board of Governors. Use it to gain valuable insights into American households’ financial well-being, economic behaviors and decision-making processes through interactive charts and graphs.
Consumer Credit Explorer
The Philadelphia Fed’s Consumer Credit Explorer offers interactive data and insights on consumer credit trends across demographics and regions
Banking Desserts Dashboard
Fed Communities composed of all 12 Federal Reserve banks and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, offers the Banking Desserts Dashboard, which uses census data to map areas with limited bank branch access. This identification helps inform solutions to better serve the financial needs of residents in these areas.
Home Ownership Affordability Monitor
The Atlanta Fed’s Home Ownership Affordability Monitor provides monthly home affordability insights at national, metro and county levels, using the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 30% income threshold.
Home Mortgage Explorer
The Philadelphia Fed’s Home Mortgage Explorer provides lending estimates produced from publicly available Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data.
The tool provides lending statistics for first-lien mortgages for 1- to 4-family, owner-occupied housing units in the 50 states and Washington, D.C., for the years 2010 to 2023. Both approved and denied applications are analyzed. Applications not included in the Home Mortgage Explorer include those withdrawn or closed for incompleteness, preapproval requests, and loans purchased by the respondent’s institution.
Occupational Mobility Explorer
Researchers at the Cleveland and Philly Feds leverage the skills employers ask for to create a tool that allows users to explore career paths and visualize how skills for a particular occupation can transfer to similar but higher-paying jobs in the same geographical area. The tool was updated in September 2024 to include the most recently available data and expand the geographic coverage to include all areas of the country with available data.
