We are in the final stretch of 2025, which is hard to believe. As I think back to the first part of the year, it feels like a lifetime ago! Since January, GOPC has had a lot of projects and I have been unusually busy on the two professional boards that I serve. But through it all, my family, friends, close colleagues, and GOPC’s staff and board, have been there buoying me up and keeping me motivated.
I am incredibly fortunate to work with amazing people at GOPC. Our average staff tenure is now 8+ years. In any industry this longevity is notable; in the world of small nonprofits, it is remarkable. I am grateful that I work with people who know how to get the job done and are always willing to help each other and me to get to the finish line. Thank you GOPCers; it is a privilege to work and learn alongside you!
I know I regularly tell people how lucky I am to have a Board that is so engaged and committed to GOPC. I am saying it again because it is true. GOPC’s board members show up when we need them the most. And they step back and give staff a lot of scope to implement the Board’s priorities. I always feel like GOPC’s board has “our backs”.
GOPC’s outgoing Board Chair, DJ Valentine, deserves a special shout-out. Among other Presidential duties, DJ has done two years of biweekly calls with me. These calls are part therapy, part strategy sessions, and part information exchange. I would be lost without these calls. Thank you to all the board, and especially DJ, for helping me see the big picture and maintaining perspective.
GOPC’s partners and colleagues around the Statehouse, throughout Ohio, and beyond have been especially important in 2025. We rallied around shared issues during the Main Operating Budget and have shared tidbits from changing federal programs. The collegiality I experience is energizing and encouraging.
GOPC couldn’t do the work we do without philanthropic funders and clients. I know GOPC offers unique services and perspectives. I also know we sometimes compete against brilliant experts. I am so grateful when funders and clients “get” GOPC and invest in us.
And a big thank you to my husband who took on more childcare and household duties than is his fair share this year. He ensured I could get the work done, no matter how late at night or early in the morning it might be.
As we head into 2026, I know I will be starting on strong footing thanks to my community. Thank you!
