GOPC is excited to share Exploratory Scenario Planning in Legacy Cities: A Companion to the LegacySP Toolkit, released in partnership with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy through the Consortium for Scenario Planning. This new resource builds on the LegacySP Toolkit to better equip those of us working in legacy cities with the methods, insights, and real-world experience needed to plan under uncertainty and utilize exploratory scenario planning as a tool for community planning.
The LegacySP Toolkit is one of the first toolkits specifically designed to guide legacy cities through scenario planning. Exploratory Scenario Planning allows legacy cities to acknowledge unwanted futures and envision desirable ones, and it shows that even the idealized growth model is still fraught with challenges.
GOPC’s goal with this toolkit is to enhance the work contained in the LegacySP Toolkit by providing observations and suggestions, based on our participation in three formal scenario planning processes undertaken over the past three years in Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, and Hamilton.
Through GOPC’s facilitation with the three cities through the exploratory scenario process utilizing the LegacySP Toolkit, GOPC’s goal in publishing this toolkit is to help communities with additional resources for how to find success in exploratory scenario planning.
