Join the Greater Ohio Policy Center (GOPC) and the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) for a free webinar on the latest updates to the Opportunity Zones 2.0 nomination process underway at ODOT.
The webinar will cover:
An overview of the Opportunity Zones 2.0 nomination process.
Criteria for a successful application as outlined by ODOD.
How community collaboration can strengthen a local nomination.
On June 10 the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) opened the nomination portal for local officials, economic development groups, and other entities to submit why certain tracts should be nominated for inclusion in the official Opportunity Zones 2.0 (OZ2.0) list of designated census tracts.
This public comment window will be open through July 10, 2026.
The nomination form and details about how to submit can be found on ODOD’s Opportunity Zones website.
Key Factors to Remember
Census tracts must be nominated and submitted to ODOD for consideration.
Nomination forms can be submitted for multiple census tracts, with ODOD requesting that the submission include priority ranking with explanation.
Local communities looking to advocate for inclusion of eligible census tracts in OZ2.0 should work collaboratively and prioritize census tracts for nomination. Advocates should highlight local and regional collaboration, align nominations with plans to emphasize how the region will work together to ensure investment in the census tracts, and show how OZ designation advances housing, revitalization, and economic goals already underway.
Nominations should refer to past successes within existing or nearby OZs if possible.
